$6000 Mini Grant and Staff hiring

As part of a larger grant through North Hills Community Outreach's Compassion Allegheny, we received a $6000 mini-grant to hire an Expansion Coordinator. We've selected Kim Cartwright. Her primary responsibility is to help us implement the strategic plan being developed through our consultant and other assistance provided by NHCO. Kim moved here in the fall to finish a community ministry degree at Geneva College. She has over 10 years of retail management experience and corporate training and has already served as a volunteer. She will be helping create the student worker program, designing the training manuals for students, designing a volunteer manual, and helping us put together the "Living Room Learning" series covering basic life skills.

Community Forum a Success

The Community Forum on Tuesday, May 22 was a success. As part of the capacity building grant we received, our consultant Ken Kovach of KEYGroup Consulting facilitated a Community Forum. We expected about 25 people and had about as many. It included several representatives from Hazelwood Initiative, a firemen from the firehouse a block away (& who is also a Hazelwood landlord), a representative from the Hazelwood YMCA, staff from another church, the Zone 4 police commander, and of course a few members of Hazelwood Christian Church. We're thankful for all who participated. Although not in attendance, we received positive feedback from a significant Hazelwood business who received the invitation.
